FOREST BACKGROUND

Here is the 2nd PGBM style background! After quite a bit of struggle, cranked this background out. After doing two of these, I'm starting to recognize ways I could optimize the process of doing backgrounds. IM LEARNING STUFF, HOORAY!

B & D : P R O C E S S

This is a study for some vis dev work I'm doing for my film.

BACKGROUND PROCESS

Here's what I'm up to on the forest background. Layout clean up and some color thumbnails. Nick Cross and David Cooper are two very VERY talented people when it comes to environments, however they both take different approaches, so its hard to reconcile.

super fun shapes and designs!!!

Also, they seem to favor green/red color schemes (which are the BANE of my colorblindness). Again tho, this is mostly to train me to work out of my comfort zone, and try to critically analyze the style and process of what PGBM! might look like (as I'm sure its style will change during the course of development). Will post the finished forest soon, and then on to the next one!

Dave has a great process series on how he makes a painting here, and Nick has one here, so check 'em out!

BACKGROUND

I've never been good at backgrounds in general, however in order to surpass your limits you need to work outside your comfort zone. My goals here were 1) refamiliarize myself with the rules of two point perspective 2) try to adapt to the stylization of Dave Cooper's aesthetic (which I need to anyways if I want to one day work on PigGoatBananaMantis!) and 3) try to understand the color pallet of the show. Since this was my first try, I wasn't concerning myself with things like lighting or composition, just needed to establish confidence in working like this. Next I'm going to try to do a forest scene, and some prop designs in Cooper's style.
